Not sure I should rate my competition in the Stencyl Jam, but after seeing some of the hateful reviews, I thought I'd weigh in:
I love what you're doing here. Just taking a simple mechanic and exploring it fully. True game design. The controls are a little clunky. I would suggest having the ship sit on top of the mouse cursor, instead of following it. For levels that require more dexterity (e.g. Air Attack. I HATE it! Can't beat it), this is critical. Also, consider not allowing the ship to leave the screen (Stencyl has a standard behaviour for this). There were a few moments where I felt like I lost my ship.
Other than that, very nice work. Best of luck in the competition.
